author photo for Atlantis

this one is more recent than my now 5 year old 'use for everything' pic - what do you think? does it look like somebody who could write dark, sexy Warriors? (photo by Tara Kearney)

Collages

I have Jenny Crusie and Barbara Samuel to blame, er, thank for this idea. Making a collage to represent the feel of a book and spark your creativity. This is the one I did for ATLANTIS RISING, and I have to admit that looking at it when I was staring off into space, while working on the book, did help center me in my world.

ONLY SIX WEEKS TILL RELEASE DAY!!!

And I'm pleased to announce that ATLANTIS RISING will be the featured Book Club discussion book in Jenny Crusie's Cherry forums for mid-April!

I'm waiting on copyedits for Wild Hearts in Atlantis, which is Book 2, Bastien's story, which will show up in May in the anthology WILD THING with Maggie Shayne, Marjorie Liu, and Meljean Brook. Which makes me want to change my name to start with an M . . .

And then back to work on one of alter-ego Alesia's next mystery release, so I can dive into ATLANTIS AWAKENING. It's going to be a busy year! Love it!

Procrastination, she is deadly

Hundreds of people are participating in the Thursday Thirteen, which seems like tons of fun but sadly there's no way I have time to do it!! But I thought I'd take a stab at a single instance of 13'ing on Thursday:

Thirteen Ways I like to procrastinate

1. Big surprise - surfing the blogosphere!
2. Organizing my office
3. Going to the bookstore and buying my friends' books
4. Baking. Lots and lots of baking. Did you mention that you'd like for me to send you 10 dozen cookies?
5. Movies. In the theater, from Netflix, the classic movie channel. Love 'em. Popcorn optional
6. Playing with my two pugs
7. Cleaning out my closet. Every deadline that rolls around, my closet is spotless and color coordinated. Sadly, I'm not kidding.
8. E-mail. It's addictive. Anybody getting one of those new Treos?
9. Downloading music. I can spend hours on this.
10. Research. Because I have to have every single detail right before I can write another page, right?
11. Reorganizing the kitchen cupboards. Last night I did the pantry. How do I own 9 boxes of cereal?
12. Going out to eat. Someplace I have to drive at least 30 minutes to get to . . .
13. Reading books that OTHER people had to meet deadlines on!!!

The reviews are coming in!!

Wow! Sarah W. at Romance Junkies.com had this to say:

"Alyssa Day roars onto the paranormal scene with this tense and magnetic read."

I told my family that magnetic people shouldn't have to do dishes, and they fell for it. Thanks, Sarah and Romance Junkies!!

Interview with an editor

My brilliant and wonderful and very hard-working editor Cindy Hwang, to be exact! See what she has to say about the sizzling paranormal romance genre at Dear Author.

Happy New Year!

New year and new me. I'm not one for resolutions, but this year I've decided to be happier. That's it. Quit worrying about things that are outside of my control and focus on the work and my Muse and live in the present. Remember that story about the ant and the grasshopper? I've lived my life as an ant and am resolved to be more grasshopperish.
