1. Thank you! You made Atlantis Rising, the first of the Warriors of Poseidon series, a USA Today bestselling novel! Thank you so much for taking a chance on a new series and for the hundreds of wonderful e-mails about my book!! I’m thrilled you loved Conlan and Riley as much as I do!
2. Thank you, too, for picking up the anthology WILD THING with my story Wild Hearts in Atlantis – Bastien and Kat’s story. Reviewer Sarah W. at Romance Junkies said: “Alyssa Day always knows how to turn up the steam and heat and Wild Hearts in Atlantis lives up to her previous stories.”
3. Come see me in Dallas!! Romance Writers of America is proud to host the “Readers for Life” Literacy Autographing at the 27th Annual RWA Conference in Dallas, Texas, on July 11, 2007, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. in the Hyatt Regency hotel. Over 450 romance fiction authors will be signing books donated by publishers with the proceeds of the sales going to literacy charities. RWA has raised approximately $500,000 for literacy since the inception of the "Readers for Life" Literacy Autographing event. Check out the list below to see if your favorite authors will be there, and then join us at the event! (This event is open to the public.)
4. ATLANTIS AWAKENING!!

6. In hot author news, my “sister” in writing, Sylvia Day has a new release out this month! PASSION FOR THE GAME is a June release and it's hot! Here’s a quick look:
For the notorious Lady Winter, seduction and duplicity are required to survive. Cunning and precision are the tools of pirate Christopher St. John. Pitted against one another, they are a surprise waiting to happen... A lushly sensual and unforgettable romance about two criminal masterminds who are irresistibly drawn together.
Hugs and happy summer. Summer means beach reads -yippee!

Just call me Nature Girl
Or, not. :) Actually I survived camping amazingly well - no bears, no mosquito bites, and only two different spiders in the shower. Busch Gardens for Science Boy's birthday was fun, too - perfect weather and we got drenched on the Escape from Pompeii ride when the day turned a little hot.
This is a day for beginnings and endings - I'm beginning the actual boxing up phase of packing, which is always interesting. "I own THAT? Really?" I mean, hasn't it been a loooong time (if ever) that purple velvet miniskirts were in style?? Sigh.
And endings - one very sad one in particular. Today is my last post at the group blog Literary Chicks that I've been part of for three years. We are all going in so many different directions - new beginnings, if you will - that we decided the time had come to move on. But it was hard to say goodbye and it made me cry a little. I hope all my lovely, wonderful readers there follow me over here and keep up with my news and share theirs, too.
Oh, and just for fun: That's us camping in Williamsburg!! (Yes, I really look like that without makeup. It's sad. LOL.)

I Heart my Bookseller friends!!!
I had the BEST lunch!! The lovely and wickedly funny Rudy, Rosa, and Julie from my Lynnhaven Barnes & Noble were kind enough to come out in the rain and have lunch with me at Ruby Tuesdays today. We had lots and lots of yummy food and laughed so hard I think we scared the people near us!!! I had specially autographed copies of Wild Thing for them, but they surprised me with wonderful gifts!!
I am writing notes and my To Do list right now with the Happiness pen from my new Feng Shui Bookmarker Pen set!! These are the coolest pens that actually lie flat and have clips so they can be bookmarks, too!!
And I can't wait to have a suitably deep thought to write in my lovely new journal. (The chocolate is gone already; it's that kind of day and the family was home to "help" me open the box . . .
I absolutely LOVE talking to booksellers - especially the ones like Rudy, Rosa, and Julie, who truly love books. They're so much fun and so knowledgeable and it's a treat to hear what goes on in their side of the business. I can't imagine a better job than being a writer because I'm lucky enough to meet such fun people!! And learn about tattoos and hair streaking . . . hmmm. :)
Okay, back to work. I feel inspired to do something constructive to Ethan's story with my new pink Love pen!!

Summer living
Wow! 97 degrees here yesterday and felt like 110. It's a little cooler today, and I'm off to have a wonderful lunch with some terrific Barnes and Noble booksellers. 21 pounds of Warrior buttons arrived on my doorstep yesterday, so I'll have plenty to give away in Dallas at the RWA booksigning. Yay!
In movie news, we saw Fantastic Four and it was really fun - finally a sequel that we enjoyed. (Although Pirates was fun, just . . . missing something.) I took Princess to see the Nancy Drew movie and was very unimpressed. I grew up on Nancy Drew and expected the movie version to be at least as intelligent as the book sleuth - sadly, no. But Princess loved it. She's 7, though, and also loves Barbie movies, so that's not really saying much.
Still jonesing to see Ocean's 13 and Evan Almighty is coming out soon - this weekend? - and looks fun. Summer is movie time, definitely. Especially since I mailed off the copyedits for Ven's book, Atlantis Awakening, yesterday and am hard at work on Ethan's novella.
But this weekend: Camping. I promised the family I'd finally go camping with them. Somehow I was lucky enough to miss all the scouting trips, that conveniently took place when I was at conference or on deadline. I have a bit of a rep as a high-maintenance princess among my family members, which is totally unfair! I camped a lot before you were born, I keep telling the kidlets. They are unimpressed. My son keeps patting my arm and telling me "It will be all right, Mommy."
Sigh. Need to go shopping for bug spray.

Crazy week
Random thoughts as I rush around frosting cupcakes for one of the kidlets' end of year school parties:
Working on Shifter's Lady this week and I'm having so much fun with Ethan and Marie. As the alpha, he expects instant obedience. As an Atlantean woman who is First Maiden of the Nereid Temple, Marie laughs in his face. The chemistry is combustible!!
Making all my plans for Dallas the giant RWA conference - it's one of my favorite weeks of the year. I promise to update my website this week with all the appearance info = there will be an enormous booksigning with hundreds of authors and all proceeds go to Literacy charities. Please stop by if you can! I'll blog from there that week.
We're thinking of adding a Cornish Rex kitten to the family. They look wonderfully funny, and have terrific playful personalities. Anybody have experience with them?

The book is DONE!!!!!!
Thank you for bearing with me while I went deep into lurk to finish. Today I spent the entire morning blasting music and cleaning out my office (I have carpet? Who knew?? lol) and it is such a relief to be done and have no deadline guilt hanging over my head for the weekend.
Unlike last weekend, which I spent in a hotel, away from distractions and working like a fiend:
YIPPEE!!!!! Ven's book, ATLANTIS AWAKENING, is done and my editor loves it!! This is fabulous news, trust me, because it's coming out in NOVEMBER! Not exactly a lot of wiggle room. whew.
Monday I start on Ethan's novella (Ethan from Wild Hearts in Atlantis, in WILD THING), which will be in an anthology called SHIFTER in March. Ethan's story will be called Shifter's Lady, and I'm looking forward to writing it. Ethan intrigued me even in the small role he played in Wild Hearts. I really love being able to revisit characters, and of course Bastien and Kat will put in appearances!
In the meantime, I'm doing fun giveaway stuff, like tote bags with the lovely and talented Sylvia Day that we'll have at RWA National, and fun buttons to give away at booksignings:
Okay, I'm off to read my new research books . . . by the pool!! I love my job. :) Have a wonderful weekend!
hugs,
Alyssa
